Wei Yu

Founder | Principal

Wei Yu is the founder and principal of Wayfarer Patent Law LLC. His practice involves patent, trademark, and copyright, with a focus on patent preparation and prosecution. He structures his practice to best serve independent inventors, start-ups, and small-medium businesses. Client education is a key part of his service, as he strives to assist clients in managing their intellectual property portfolio strategically. With an understanding of the entrepreneurial process, Wei seeks to be a partner to his clients and provide accessible legal care throughout their journey.

Wei received his Bachelor of Science from Boston University, majoring in electrical engineering. He worked as an engineer in the semi-conductor industry for before attending University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he was a member of the Student Intellectual Property Law Association. Wei worked at several firms that focused on startup companies. Prior to building his own patent practice full time, Wei also worked as a product manager at a manufacturing company, overseeing product designs and implementing marketing strategies.

While the firm serves clients globally, Wei is passionate in helping to grow the startup ecosystem in the region. He is currently a mentor at the Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship at CMU and assists student inventors and local startups with their intellectual property needs.
